What is DEMO?
DEMO is an initiative curated by DPW that provides a platform for entrepreneurs and founders to jump start their dreams in procurement.
DEMO invites innovators from around the world to pitch their solutions to gain global exposure and access deals.
DEMO’s goal is to build, empower and boost procurement’s startup ecosystem and entrepreneurship by bringing entrepreneurs, corporates, and investors together, helping to transform procurement into a leading corporate driver for innovation.
The Grand Finale of DEMO 2021 is scheduled to take place virtually at DPW2021, our annual conference, 15-16 September, 2021.

Here is why applying for DEMO 2021 is a no-brainer:
Showcase your startup to thousands of procurement professionals who are actively seeking solutions and get spotted by industry media and investors.

Who is eligible to apply for DEMO?
We accept applications from startups whose technologies contribute to the digital procurement ecosystem. This includes core digital procurement technologies, as well as startups rolling up the space from other angles.
DEMO is open to verified startups that meet these criteria:
- You’ve got to have a tech-related product and no service
- Your company’s product must have launched no earlier than 2016
- You have to have an existing product or an MVP
Is my information confidential?
The information you provide on your application will be available to the following parties:
- DPW team (to manage the application platform)
- Our expert judging panel (to judge your application)
- Our partners (corporates and investors looking for potential collaboration or investment opportunities)
Do I have to pay for DEMO?

Can I apply if I applied before?
Yes, past startup participants are open to join again as long as you meet the application criteria.
Can my startup apply for more than one category?
Yes, you are welcome to apply for more than one category.
What type of startups are you looking for?
DEMO is uniquely interested in game-changing ideas from individuals, teams, aspiring entrepreneurs and startups in the following five categories:
Automation and Efficiency
This category highlights technologies that automate and streamline the procurement process and manual, repetitive tasks to increase efficiency, lower related operating costs, reduce errors, and improve the experiences of everyone involved in the processes. In addition, procurement specialists can move into higher-value work such as category management and analysis.
This category acknowledges and reinforces the principle that suppliers are a critical source of business value and not just a category of business spending that needs to be reduced. Technologies in this category unlock value from suppliers to improve performance, quality, innovation, and collaboration.
Cost Reduction & Savings
This category supports the implementation of emerging technologies that address all or part of the procurement process with the aim of generating measurable bottom line savings. These technologies also address savings made through re-negotiation of contract terms and conditions, administrative and operational process improvements, and the intelligent use of data.
Risk and Resilience
Technologies in this category make risk assessment and due diligence part of the procurement process. They help procurement organisations understand risk, manage and mitigate it, and build robust supply chains, both upstream and downstream, that can weather disruptions with minimal impact and stay resilient.
This category showcases technologies that embed corporate social responsibility (CSR) principles into the procurement processes and the supply chain as a whole. Focused on three key impact areas – environmental, social and economic responsibility – these technologies are taking a variety of approaches to innovating the company’s sustainable procurement activities from human rights issues to carbon emissions.
What criteria are the judges using to select the best startups?
Entries to DEMO will be evaluated using these criteria:
Innovation and Industry Disruption
- Innovative value proposition
- Potential to truly disrupt the procurement industry in a big way
Potential and Business Model
- How much potential does it have to make a big impact?
- Scalability for a global solution
Progress and Market Traction
- Operation and financial metrics
- Milestones and achievements since inception
Team, Board, Advisors
- Capabilities and expertise to execute the business plan
- Passion, ambition, vision and culture

What is DPW2021?
DPW2021 is the world’s largest and most important conference for digital procurement gathering the entire digital procurement ecosystem from enterprise to big tech, startups, investors/VCs, industry analysts, press and bloggers. Every sector of the industry is represented at the event. No other conference currently brings this variety of people together.
Our 2019 launch conference boasted a record-breaking attendance of over 400 industry leaders from 33 countries and was dubbed “the best new procurement event in years”.
In addition, DPW2019 won Silver for “Best New Conference” at the prestigious Conference Awards 2020.
How was the shift in strategy made – going from hybrid to virtual-only?
As the health crisis is still severe, in January 2021 we reached out to 500 procurement and event professionals sharing four scenarios which respond to different ways the COVID-19 pandemic could affect holding large events in 2021, and asked to vote which scenario they think is most likely?
Here are the poll results:
|B||Socially distant conference – at 1.5 meters||27%|
|C||Conference with travel restrictions (includes social distancing at event)||40%|
|D||Conference in lockdown||30%|
With no herd immunity in place in 2021 (according to WHO), Scenario B & C are very likely. However, we feel that the implications for all stakeholders are too high to follow through with a socially distant conference with travel restrictions.
Implications for sponsors & attendees
Fewer leads due to fewer attendees; fewer networking opportunities; networking and human interactions can feel awkward and stressful; more regional and fewer international leads due to travel restrictions.

At DPW, our goal is to be the most inclusive and representative community in procurement. Knowing we are stronger when we’re diverse, equal, and transparent, we will be making efforts to maintain that all participants feel welcome and can contribute to the experience.
To that end, here are three pragmatic steps we have set forward to achieve an inclusive environment at DPW2021:
- Preferred pronoun identification is available when building your digital profile in the DPW2021 event platform
- As part of DPW’s 50/50 pledge, we are targeting a 50:50 gender representation across all speakers
- We’ve set aside 50 no-charge tickets to DPW2021 for members of underrepresented groups in procurement

Yes, the sessions will be recorded. Premium ticket holders will have access to the recordings within one week after the event has concluded.
Does DPW2021 have live Closed Captioning of the conference sessions?
Yes, we do. We work with the folks over at White Coat Captioning, who specialize in environments with lots of industry-specific jargon. They’re on the line throughout the conference live-transcribing every session. The captions are available as they’re being recorded, as well as available after the conference for review.

Networking & Engagement
What networking opportunities are available at DPW2021?
DPW2021 offers two essential networking experiences:
1. Networking via Brella starting two weeks prior to the conference
Opening two weeks before the event starts and and closing two weeks after it’s finished, Premium Ticket holders will get access to our award-winning networking and matchmaking app to connect you with people virtually from across the globe.
2. Networking during the conference days on 15 & 16 September using Hopin
Open to all tickets holders (Basic and Premium), the Networking segment on Hopin is pure engagement and is similar to one-on-one meetings on a FaceTime call. It allows you to browse the full attendee list, reach out via the one-on-one chat and even request video calls to have meetings with DPW attendees. We also offer a randomised networking feature that automatically connects you for speed-networking video calls with other DPW attendees. Each video call will expire after 2 minutes to allow you to rapidly meet relevant new procurement leaders.
In Hopin, what is NETWORKING for?
This is pretty much like a professional chat roulette! You get paired into a one-on-one meeting with a person (by random) for up to 5 minutes. Once the time is up, Hopin automatically moves you to the next person. If both of you decide to connect during the session, you will be able to exchange a digital business card into your profile!
In Hopin, can I private message someone?
Yes you can! Simply click on the “People” tab, search for the person’s name and click on it. You will now be able to message that person privately. You also have the option to invite them to a one-on-one video chat. Once you have received a message, you will see a red dot next to the name of that person.

Yes, of course. Generally, providers need to be a sponsor of DPW to speak. If you would like more information on sponsorship opportunities, including sponsored speaking sessions, email email@example.com.
How are sessions selected?
All speaker proposal submissions are reviewed by the DPW advisory board in order to determine if there is a fit for the DPW2021 agenda.
I spoke at DPW last year. Can I apply to speak again this year?
We seek to ensure the majority of our speakers and presentations are brand new for each conference. It’s very rare that we accept repeat speakers at DPW. Part of what makes DPW unique is the brand new content we provide to attendees that they have not seen anywhere else. Unless your proposed session content is significantly different from last year’s, we suggest waiting until next year.

What is a procurement hackathon?
A hackathon is a sprint-like event. Procurement experts, developers, and UX/UI designers from established companies, startups, and universities intensively collaborate to create the newest and best procurement processes and/or technology in 24 hours.
Do I have to pay to participate in the hackathon?
No, participating in the hackathon is free of charge.
Do I need to be a developer/programmer for the hackathon?
Nope. This hackathon is not focused on code. The challenges aim to find innovative solutions for procurement and supply chain issues.
How many teams will be competing?
There is space for 8 teams to compete, each consisting of three to seven members.
What if I don’t have a team or idea?
No worries, all participants will have time to find a team in the weeks leading up to the hackathon. We will also organise team-formation activities during our event.
What are the specific hackathon challenges at DPW2021?
The challenges are yet to be determined. At our last hackathon, participants were tasked to tackle two challenges:
Challenge 1: Find new ways and metrics to measure procurement performance.
Challenge 2: Re-invent the source-to-pay process and find new ways to source, buy and pay.
What do the teams have to bring with them?
Every participant has to bring a laptop with a charging cable. All other necessary work equipment will be provided onsite.
What are the judging criteria?
Projects will be judged on innovation, creativity, and use of technology. How well are AI/ML and other disruptive technologies integrated? How forward-thinking and future-proof is the vision/idea behind the solution? Judges will be interested in creative use cases, which are grounded in the real world.
How long are the pitches?
Each team is given 5 minutes for the final demos on the main stage.
What does the team win?
In our view, hackathons aren’t about winning. We encourage you to use the time to demo a new technology, or turn a stranger into a close friend. However, that isn’t to say we don’t have amazing prizes! The overall prize pool of €3000 consists of a wide range of prizes.
Can I sponsor the DPW Hackathon?
Yes! Here is why you should sponsor a hackathon:
- SUPER targeted PR – your target user base discusses, develops, and innovates technology right in front of you
- Market your brand and technology to developers, engineers, and DPW attendees
- Access the talent, technology, and use cases developed onsite at DPW
- Learn how to run a hackathon, and organize one yourself in the future
- Create buzz around the conference and announce the „ProcureHack“ winner on the main stage
- Sponsor something new and exciting!
